Smiles
Smiles.
All these smiles.
A morbid happiness
That brings me joy
And others sadness
Such is the triumphant
Mask of madness.
A clown’s face
Is the scar I wear.
To me, a curse.
To others, nightmare!
They call me a fool
They call me a freak.
They cringe in terror
At the havoc I wreak.
They say that I’m mad
But from my point of view
We all straddle the edge
Like the ignorant Fool.
These men stood before me
Defying my will.
They now lie here cold,
Lifeless and still.
Their faces upturned
In a gargoyle’s grin
Their limbs growing stiff
Rigor mortis sets in.
Now I must leave
For police are on the way
Or that pointy-eared freak
Who just ruins my day.
They say I’m a thief
They brand me a murderer
They claim I’m insane
They call me the Joker.
